The Story of Stuff screening

KATONAH VILLAGE LIBRARY CELEBRATES
“BEDFORD’S APRIL IS EARTH MONTH”

To celebrate “Bedford’s April is Earth Month” the Katonah Village Library is pleased to co-sponsor with Conversations for Action a screening and discussion of The Story of Stuff plus The Secret Lives of Cell Phones and some selected short films by local students. This event will be held on Sunday, April 13, from 3 until 4:30 p.m. with refreshments at 3 and the film screening at 3:30 followed by a discussion.

The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled, humorous look at the underside of production and consumption. It explores the connections between a vast array of environmental and social issues, and points the way toward a more sustainable and just world.

The discussion will be led by Westchester resident Don Weeden, Executive Director of the Weeden Foundation. The Weeden Foundation is an environmental philanthropic foundation that focused on protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable consumption of natural resources. Don is on the steering committee of the Environmental Grantmaker Association’s Sustainable production and Consumption Working Group, a sponsor of the film.

Conversations for Action is a local environmental action group based in the Town of Bedford.

This program is free and open to the public but reservations are appreciated. Please e-mail your reservation to conversationsforaction@gmail.com.

Update - Spinning Verses Poetry Workshp

Message from workshop instructor Ginny Wiehardt:

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for coming out to the library last night andfor the good class. Since we had to wrap up soquickly, I wanted to make myself available via emailin case there were any questions.Meredith (I believe it was her) asked about books to read, and I saw that the Katonah library has a good collection of poetry books as well as books about writing poetry. I'm sure Pat Humphreys or another librarian can show you around it. (It's divided intoAmerican, British, and International sections.) Pat had out a book by Edward Hirsch, How to Read a Poem, that I've been itching to read myself -- I hear it's very good.

And if you don't have time to get to the library, there are a number of good online archives:

Poetry Foundationhttp://www.poetryfoundation.org/
Academy of American Poetryhttp://www.poets.org/
Poetry Dailyhttp://www.poems.com/

For those interested in the organization we spokea bout in the beginning of the class, I'll save Maggie the trouble of bringing the url next time:http://www.poetshouse.org/

If you're just finding your way with poetry, keep in mind that with all the exercises, the main goal is to have fun. There really is no right or wrong answer. If you're putting pen to paper, you're already doing it right! Do get in touch if you have any questions, and have a good week.

Note from Pat Humphreys:

If you wish to contact Ginny, please call me at 914-232-3508
