RUSSIAN U.N. POLITICAL AFFAIRS OFFICER TO SPEAK

RUSSIAN UNITED NATIONS POLITICAL AFFAIRS OFFICER
TO SPEAK AT KATONAH LIBRARY

The Katonah Village Library and the Katonah Great Decisions Chapter are pleased to co-sponsor an evening foreign policy forum with Aleksandr Illitchev, Senior Officer: Department of Political Affairs-UN Secretariat, on Wednesday, April 23, from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m.

With its booming, energy-fueled economy and new assertiveness on the global stage, Russia has made more than its share of headlines of late. Mr. Illitchev will offer a personal perspective on the “New Russia” and its implications and share his views on a wide range of challenging issues affecting Moscow, Washington, and other global powers. A question and answer session will follow his presentation.

The forum, open to the public, will be held in the Garden Room, on the lower level, at the library.

A $10 contribution for the Katonah Village Library is suggested ($15 with companion).

FICTION WRITING WORKSHOP

The Katonah Village Library is pleased to sponsor a Fiction Writing Workshop led by Kim Kovach. This class will be held over three weeks on May 5, 12 & 19 from 7 to 8 p.m.

This fun, informative and hands-on series is open to adults (and interested young adults) with no prior writing experience required. Participants will learn about character development, point-of-view and dialogue and will be encouraged to explore their own writing styles through creative in-class exercises and imaginative homework assignments.

Kim Kovach is a local writer, teacher and author of a short story collection as well as numerous freelance articles. Her short story collection A Few Bad Decisions is available at Charles Department Store and Awakenings in Katonah, Cross River Pharmacy in Cross River, Chappaqua Book Shop in Chappaqua, Books on the Common in Ridgefield and Elm Street Books in New Canaan

Registration is required for this program as space is limited.

LATE SPRING AT THE LIBRARY

The Katonah Village Library is pleased to announce the following events:

The Katonah Poetry Series continues with award-winning poet Anne Marie Macari. She will read on April 27 at 4 p.m. followed by a reception and book-signing.

On May 3 we will have our Spring Book Sale from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This sale will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

A three-part Fiction Writing Workshop led by writer, teacher and author Kim Kovach will be held on Monday, May 5, 12 and 19, from 7 – 8 p.m.. No prior writing experience is required—just a pen and notepad. Registration is required and space is limited. Please register by calling the library at 232-3508 or stop by the circulation desk to sign up.

On Saturday, May 17, at 8 p.m., a Chamber Music Concert will be held featuring Gena Raps on the piano, Carol Wincenc (from the faculty of Juilliard School and Mannes College of Music) on the flute and other distinguished artists. Tickets are $25. They are on sale now at the circulation desk.

On Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. we will be co-sponsoring a Bone Marrow Donor Drive.
