Great Decisions - Islam & Mid-East Politics - March 15th

Islam: From an Angel's Whisper to World Conquest


On March 15, 2006, 8 p.m., Mark Weston, scholar-author of Mid-East and Oriental history, will come to the Katonah Village Library to speak about Islam the religion and its impact on the politics of the Mid-East. The Northern Westchester Great Decisions Chapter of the Foreign Policy Association has invited him as its featured speaker at its public session.


Mr. Weston, who grew up in Armonk, N.Y., recently returnd from Saudi Arabia where he was a Visiting Scholar at King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. He is now completing a new book Prophets and Princes: Saudi Arabia from Muhammad to the Present. He has also written the books The Land and People of Pakistan (1992), Giants of Japan: The Lives of Japan's Greatest Men and Women (1990), as well as two plays.


This program is co-sponsored by Katonah Great Decisions Group and the Katonah Village Library. A $10 contribution for the Katonah Village Library is suggested. New Mothers Discussion Group - Feb. - May 2006

New Mothers Discussion Group


New mothers and their infants, birth to 12 months, are invited to attend these monthly meetings. The goal of this program is to give new mothers information to enrich their parenting skills and an opportunity to meet other new mothers. Each meeting will feature a speaker who will lead a discussion on a topic of interest to new mothers. There is always an opportunity for questions and group discussion.

Learning to Talk
March 3, 2006, Friday


Language development begins at birth. Your infant's crying, cooing, babbling all lead to the day she/he will say their first words. Dr. Pike will discuss language development during the first year and show you ways of interacting with your baby that will stimulate language growth.


Presented by Dr. Susan Pike who is a pediatic speech-language pathologist with certification from the American Speech-Hearing Language Association. Dr. Pike has recently published a book called Talk Me Into It: Preparing Children for School Success Through Language.
